11-4-13

Monday was the beginning of an interesting and funny week.  As I walked into the gates of PCC Denis met me with 2 huge rat traps.  They looked like a mouse trap but they were almost as big as a shoe box.   I work in costumes in the morning and every day we are running into rat poopies on the ironing board and in the window sills, on the tables and material.  We have joked about catching rats. We found some cheese and had Denis and Bro. Nielsen put it on the traps.  The next day we came in and looked in our supply closet and lo and behold there was a rat!  It had gotten out of the trap somehow and swirled around on the floor and left blood and part of a ligament or something on the floor.  We screamed and had a fit.  I called Denis and they came over to clean up the mess.  He reset the traps.

The next day the trap had gone off and the cheese was gone but no rat.  Every time we go to the storage closet we knock on the door to make sure the rats run off and we don't run into them.  In the meantime we had been sewing strips of material to together to make us Halloween costumes.  They were scraps off some costumes  we were remodeling.  On Wednesday we went to work and checked the closet again.  This time a bigger rat appeared caught by the neck in the trap only he didn't make a mess.  I called Denis again and they came over and got the rat and reloaded the trap again.

One day last week Kathy and I were standing waiting for our husbands and along came the Pres. of the PCC.  He wanted to know how our day was and we told him we were hunting down rats.  Kathy had a picture on her phone and she showed him the bloody mess.  He didn't think it was as funny as we did. He assured us he would get to the bottom of the problem.

On Halloween Day all of the women in the sewing dressed up and went to the administration offices to trick or treat.  In the meantime we had gotten the idea to be the rat pack.  I made signs, bought a clean rat trap and got a big fat rat (fake) for our costume.  Everyone thought it was so funny because they have all been interested in our rat hunt every day.

This is Tessie- the pig tails are her real hair.  She rides a bicycle and was afraid they would catch in the spokes.
Friday we had just a normal day and kind of quiet.  We were worn out from all of our activity on the previous days.  We are excited to see if we have caught a rat come tomorrow.  Saturday we went with the Tremares to the macadamia nut farm and went on a guided tour around the premises.  The bus looked like an old thing out of Gilligan's Island.  Holes in the floor board and coconuts hanging out the windows.  The Hawaiian that drove the bus and was our guide and was so funny.  He kept us entertained and laughing.

Today was Fast Sunday.  We had a Linger Longer after church for about 150 kids.  They had taco salads for them.  We each had to cook about 20# of hamburger.  The bishop's wife was in charge and did a very good job.  The kids act like they are starved to death.  Some come back for 3rds and 4ths. Every Fast Sunday the Senior missionaries have a Break the Fast and we had to come home and get the food for that and go back.  Seems like we stay so busy we don't have time to even have a Sunday nap.

This week Denis' Aunt Zora died.  She was 89 years old.  She is the last on his parents side of uncles and aunts. Monday is her funeral in Logan.  She will be buried up by Grandma Larsen and Denis parents.  Time goes on and we are the next generation to go.  Good thing for lots of memories.  Have a good week.
Love, Sherleen

  1. Your costumes were great! I didn't know Denis is related to Zora, I used to deliver meds to her and she was the sweetest lady. Haven't seen her in awhile, but when I saw her obituary, I was sad. She was really nice. Now I know where Denis gets it! You two are having too much fun over there, you won't wanna come home!! It's cold here!
